BOTTEGA GHIANDA || Álvaro Siza Designs a Chair Light as a Butterfly

The 2022 Bottega Ghianda collection is enriched with a new piece of furniture.

Álvaro Siza, a Portuguese architect recognized worldwide, continues his collaboration with the brand by designing Farfallina, a chair characterized by a minimalistic design and a peculiar lightness; its weight is 3.7 kilos, unlike the average weight of the chairs belonging to its category. Despite the lightness, the solid natural beech structure with leather seat ensures its comfort and ergonomics and passing the Catas test also demonstrates its resistance.

The anatomically curved design welcomes the spine for a more comfortable seating posture

At just 3.7 kilograms, the chair is comparatively lighter than others in its category.

The particular kind of natural beech that composes it comes from the Black Forest, in Germany, characterized by a long ageing process of almost five years, which encompasses the chair with a very elegance to the touch.

Originally named “Borboleta” (butterfly in Portuguese) , the new Bottega Ghianda chair also recalls the animal through its shapes: the seatback structure is anatomically curved in order to welcome the spine and to counterbalance its squared-off seating.

The thought process behind the elegant design.
