Stylish Cantu Chairs by Espasso
The deep warm palette of the 3136 SF townhouse includes a mix of darker navy blue and grey fabrics, rich woods mixed with burnished brass, bronze and burnt orange tones, and leafy greens from the oversized Fiddle fig and Kentia Palm trees scattered about the home. Farrow & Ball’s ‘Ammonite’ grey on the panelled walls offers the perfect backdrop for pieces of unexpected abstract art and sculpture, and the bold veining of the statement Rosso Levanto marble fireplace in the sitting room.
In the front reception room, hard, angular pieces such as the Jan Janssen coffee table and Rich Owen side tables are juxtaposed with soft, layered textural fabrics, such as the loose linen of the Oliver Gustav sofa, muted tones and unusual accessories. A dramatic centrepiece is the ethereal ‘cloud light’ by Apparatus, the New York atelier. Glass orbs emit a soft glow having been frosted to create an irregular texture reminiscent of 19th Century frosting techniques. The bronze floor lamp is by Vincenzo De Cotiis. The artwork is a piece called ‘Concrete’ by Ann Sophie Ogard.
In the dining room stylish Cantu Chairs by Espasso are set around the oversized bespoke marble and bronze centrepiece table. Apparatus Trapeze lighting sconces are on the walls.

A spacious kitchen to the rear of the townhouse features a bespoke ‘Obumex Dirand’ kitchen with a stunning cantilevered island in Calacatta Oro marble, along with top of the range Gaggenau appliances. Crittal-style doors lead out onto a private terrace. Furnishing includes a bespoke Banda Design Studio bench with fawn leather cushions on a stained timber frame with brass detailing. The lighting overhanging is Apparatus’s ‘Arrow’ piece.
A staircase leads down to two further levels. The master bedroom suite is to the rear at lower ground floor level, with access to and overlooking a garden and green living walls. The bedroom itself has a striking custom velvet headboard and there is a boucle wrapped chaise lounge. The bedside tables are designed by Sven Engström & Gunnar Myrstrand and produced by Tingströms in Sweden Rosewood and brass finish. There are some bold Hector tabletop marble-based lamps by Birgit Israel. A striking centerpiece is the Anneau pendant light, a plaster Ring with blackened bronze fixings, from Eric Schmitt. There is an Alice floor lamp featuring blackened Brass, black cloth cord, and handblown sandblasted cubes, and underfoot a Tencel Rug with tape edge detail.
The master bathroom features a light Calacatta Statuario marble with a double walk-in shower and free-standing bath. The tarnished brassware taps by Waterworks complement the remainder of the apartment’s brass ironmongery, also the antique-looking edges to the mirrors. Stylish cosmetic sourcing includes Byreddo, Aesop, Le Labo and Mr. Harris.

There is also a second bedroom and en-suite on this floor. This bedroom has a king-size bed with a bespoke curved edge headboard, Timber curved panels, and an upholstered middle section finish. The bedside table is a piece from Banda’s Kwanza furniture collection, a Cylindrical Marble Stool in Calacatta Viola. Feature lighting includes an overhead Italian Pendant Lamp from Stilnovo, Bakelite, and brass structure with a white opaline glass lampshade. The knotted ‘Laine’ rug was hand-sewn by Sara Helsinki in Ethiopia, whose aim is to improve the living standards of the artisans she trains and employs in Addis Ababa.
A luxurious cinema room is located on the lower level, complete with an oversized Ben Whistler L-shaped sofa upholstered with Romo fabric in Cashew, a bespoke Coffee Table in Black Marquinna with hand wave finish, and a bespoke popcorn making machine designed by Banda Design Studio. With brass metalwork and seeded inset glass, this fully working prototype with its fluted light-up sign is as much a playful talking point as it is a beautiful addition to the room.
There is faux suede paneling with a Majilite Novasuede Greystone fabric from Dedar, along the TV unit wall. The desk features a beautiful brass Bert Frank lamp with win arms and symmetrical cask shades in brass. A limited-edition of David Yarrow's “No Country for Old Men” sits proudly between the brass inlaid into the suede upholstered walls. The Connor Brothers “We Must Be Careful”, Giclée, screenprint acrylic, and oil and hand applied varnish on paper.
A guest bedroom is also located on this lower level, ensuring that the homeowners and guests can each enjoy their privacy.
It’s evident that Banda has meticulously considered each and every design and decorative detail in this townhouse, with an upscale colour and material palette, a curated collection of artwork, and custom furnishings. Edo Mapelli Mozzi, the founder of Banda, has masterfully conveyed his passion for design, fashion, and sustainability to realize his vision to build homes aligning with Banda’s mantra — ‘design for living’.
