BÁNH MÌ TRÈS BON || An Expanded Menu of Authentic Vietnamese Eats

Congratulations are in order on Bánh Mì Très Bon’s grand re-opening with an expanded dining space. Our story goes back to the early stages of Pendulum Magazine when we visited Bánh Mì Très Bon in search of the tastiest Bánh Mì in the city.

From the signature pho noodles with an intense, rich broth, to the delicious, soft and slightly crispy Bánh Mì and the oozing egg yolk from the fried egg, the food did not disappoint. The lineups outside the restaurant were constant, with the delicious aromas wafting out from the kitchen and onto the sidewalk attracting passerby to wonder what the commotion was all about. On Sunday, October 6, at 9:30 AM, Bánh Mì Très Bon will open the doors to its brand-new expanded space in Richmond’s Central City Shopping Centre.

The extended space features vibrant paper lantern fixtures and a baby grand piano nestled in the corner.

Now, with an expanded space that can seat up to 50 guests and a renovated kitchen, more guests can discover Bánh Mì Très Bon’s authentic Vietnamese delicacies. With the grand re-opening, Owner and Operator, Lan, has added a slew of new menu items including Bún bò Huế, Phở Chay, Bánh bèo chén, Chè bà ba, Che Ba Mau, Phở Chay, Bún Chay and more.

Lan’s creations are inspired by the flavors she grew up with and also her extensive travels throughout Vietnam’s rural towns, where she experienced dishes passed down from generation to generation. In each of the dishes, you will find the use of organic and free-range meats.

So why are the Bánh Mì here unique from other restaurants? It is because Bánh Mì Très Bon is offering the original Bánh Mì bread found in central Vietnam. The bread has a golden-brown crust with a light and airy crumb and a scent that can only be achieved by a combination of traditional techniques-involving hand rolling and hand shaping each baguette individually. Here you will enjoy authentic bánh mì and the finest house-made proteins and condiments - you can certainly taste the difference in each bite.

The reason I decided to add these items is because they are very traditional. Many of them are not introduced here in Richmond, and not available here either. Our goal is to slowly integrate traditional items that have been overshadowed by pho and banh mi with the expanded menu list. We intend to continue to showcase new daily specials and intend to bring back the true taste for the new generation.
— Lan Do, Bánh Mì Très Bon Owner and Operator

Hearty noodle soups and crispy spring rolls make for a satisfying meal.

At Bánh Mì Très Bon, you will taste the same flavors you would in a Vietnamese home. Recreating phở in its truest form is a tedious experience, however, the end product is overwhelmingly satisfying and delicious. Its golden broth can only be created by simmering beef bones, freshly toasted onions and ginger, and a variety of toasted spices for hours on end until the perfect flavor emerges.

Another reason why we continue to return to Bánh Mì Très Bon is because of Lan’s dedication to providing the best and tastiest meals for her guests, who become regulars and eventually become her friends. She visits each and every table to ensure guests are enjoying their meals and greets every person with a smile. You can see her bustling about, helping with cleanup, the cash register, and the back kitchen; it’s the sign of a great leader, an owner who is passionate and committed to being on the front lines with their team. Once again, congratulations to Lan and team on the expansion of the restaurant, and we look forward to further expansion of the business in the years to come!

The perfect option to warm you up on a cold winter day.
