OBICÀ MOZZARELLA BAR || Indulge in Decadent Cheese from Campania and Puglia

For good vibes and tasty eats, you can head to Obicà Mozzarella Bar in the vibrant Rua da Picaria.

In fact, the street is lined with restaurants and we had a tough time deciding which restaurant to visit for dinner. After trekking around town on foot during the day, we were ready to enjoy a carb-heavy meal, which called for generous servings of cheese and hearty pasta.

It was still early in the evening when we arrived and the waitress promptly seated us at a booth by the window. The front of the restaurant is a cozy dining room, and the back is a lively bar seating area. Whether you’re in the mood for a sit-down dinner with appetizers, main courses and dessert or just wine and cheese, you’ve come to the right place.

Cheese lovers would be delighted to discover that the restaurant has a Mozzarella Bar, which serves Mozzarella di Bufala Campana from the fertile plains of Campania. You can also indulge in Stracciatella and Burrata, both made with cow milk and sourced from Puglia in Southern Italy.

Burrata has always been my favourite, so I ordered a few appetizers that pair well with the Burrata, which included the Wild Boar Salumi and the Beef and Sausage Meatballs with Taleggio Fondue, and savoured a wonderful start to my meal.

There are plenty of entrees and main courses to choose from, and Obicà offers plenty of cheesy pizza options, from Bufala to Gorgonzola and Stracciatella. Pasta was calling our name that evening, and we opted for a full table of pasta plates to share. We filled the table with classics like Lasagna with beef ragù, and unique pastas like Shicaffoni and Tagliolini with summer black truffle. While the dishes are simply prepared, the pasta was perfectly cooked and paired well with the sauces.

The Lasagna was brimming with cheesy goodness, while the Schiaffoni’s large, tubular shape was ideal to capture the tomato sauce. The summer black truffle with Tagliolini, which looks like spaghetti but is thin like capellini, was the perfect choice for the white sauce and aromas of the truffle to wrap around each pasta ribbon.

The dessert menu boasts eight tasty items, including traditional ones like Tiramisu, Cannolo alla Crema and Affogato, and creative choices like red wine poached pear and chocolate ganache.

While Porto offers an abundance of tasty dining options, especially in Rua da Picaria, if you are looking for a spot to enjoy authentic Italian flavours and aromatic cheeses, you can add Obicà to your list of places to try. We hope you enjoy it!
