TRANSSENSORIAL GATEWAY || Interaction between people, space, light and sound

Designed for the ‘Creative Connections’ exhibition at the FuoriSalone, Transsensorial Gateway by noa* promotes interaction between people, space, light and sound.

Located at the entrance of the University of Milan, the installation serves as a welcome to guests travelling through the 17th-century portico. 34 beams on either side of the entrance form a crown of lights made of stainless steel coated with mirror and lined with unique anti-glare LED units by South Tyrolean company EWO. The futuristic installation contrast against the historic backdrop and illuminates the portico with a wash of purple in the evening, while a light musical score further enhances the experience. During the daytime, the reflection of the surrounding historic facades makes for an interesting and dichotomous picture.

34 beams are arranged on either side of the entrance to the university.

The mirrored beams capture surrounding historic facades during the daytime, creating a contrasting picture with the futuristic installation against the backdrop of historic architecture.

As visitors move through the space, their reflections are captured in the mirrored beams, their shadows are defined by the glowing LED lights, and their movements are interpreted by the sensors programmed to respond to the diversity of the situation detected. The sound is regulated by loudspeakers placed in the exhibition area of the installation, while the sensors that control light and sound according to the interactions between people are distributed along the 34 beams.

The Transsensorial Gateway creates a space that demonstrates how our actions are closely intertwined with our surroundings and other people around us.

The sensors for sound are programmed to respond a diversity of situations.
