LUXY + BARBARA DAVIS GALLERY || "The Journey of the Chair" Exhibit Invites You to Sit Down to Have an Idea

Where do you come up with your best ideas?

While some of us say our most brilliant ideas originate from when we’re in the shower or the bath, we’d say that majority of ideas still come to us when we’re chewing on a pen and sitting in our chair at our desk. This is what the new exhibition at Barbara Davis Gallery is inviting you to do — come sit down to have an idea.

Barbara Davis Gallery is excited to announce  The Journey of the Chair  – a solo exhibition unveiling  Andrea Bianconi’s limited edition  Biga chair, titled  Sit Down To Have an Idea®.

Produced by Italian chair designer  Luxy, the  Biga chair will be on display from July 8 through to August 27, 2022. An opening reception will be held on Friday, July 8th, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm.

Andrea Bianconi’s  Sit Down To Have an Idea® centers around the notion of the human experience as it relates to being a thinker, placing these themes at the forefront of its design.

Having accrued an international reputation for being highly specialized in the production of design chairs,  Luxy is driven by new functional, aesthetic, and psychological needs of contemporary living, most of which were born during a time of Smartworking.

With this in mind, the Biga armchair becomes a metaphorical object and is representative of the birthplace of ideas; it is where one returns to imagine, think, and create. For this reason, the artistic idea behind  Sit Down To Have an Idea® is human-oriented, offering not just a piece of furniture, but a truly livable experience.

“My goal was to reinterpret the role of the chair”, says Bianconi, “and to give it a specific function: the task of stimulating creativity. In a moment of closure, thought and creativity were the greatest form of freedom I had at my disposal”.

Bianconi’s work is a reflection on the concept of ideas as "visions", always personal and ever-elusive. To catch it we need to pause, think, and listen. The Journey of the Chair will invite the viewer into a neutral place where one uses thought to imagine the future or understand the present.

Reminiscent of a Roman chariot that can move swiftly between locations thanks to its wheels, Biga’s  Sit Down To Have an Idea®  represents a new philosophy with humans at the forefront that re-establishes the value and central role of the individual in their creative everyday life.
