WOMEN IN BUSINESS || What It Takes to Run a Successful Wellness Clinic for 27 Years

There’s nothing I love more than seeing other women win.

I’ve learned so much from other women-led businesses, and I thought it would be beneficial to share the wisdom of my network with our readers. This is why we’re starting a new series on Women in Business, where we ask fearless leaders who built their empires to share their learnings and insights. The key takeaway from reading these Q&A insights is that businesses come in all shapes and sizes, and every business owner faces unique challenges in their career and company.

Our first feature is with Dr. Beverley Steinhoff, Principal Chiropractor at Broadway AT Yew Chiropractic & Massage.

P: Pendulum Magazine

B: Dr. Beverley Steinhoff

P: What was your first job? What responsibilities did you own?

B: Grocery clerk, chaos management, accuracy and how to pack a mean bag of groceries.

P: Describe your business and the consumer pain it solves.

B: It's a multi-disciplinary health & wellness clinic serving patients. We fix people's pain and health.

P: Why did you start your business? What's your origin story?

B: I wanted to make a difference with regards to helping people with their health by teaching them preventative and non-medical methods, which are often more effective.

P: What's your role in the business?

B: I am the passion, rainmaker and energy behind a 27-year corporation. I am the main healer and a magician when it comes to pain. There is not much that I can fix or help.

P: If you could pick up to three key milestones that set your company on its growth trajectory, what would those be? Why did they matter so much?

B: 2 years, as some businesses fail. 10 years because I'm now an EXPERT based on hours, and 25 is a quarter of a century and [the company] survived Covid.

P: What has been the toughest decision you've made in your career? What made it so challenging?

B: To stay in business after Covid.

P: In your opinion, what is the most important leadership trait to run a successful business?

B: Strong, passionate and investing in your people are nice, but actually WORKING hard is the number 1.

Thank you to Dr Beverly Steinoff for taking part in our Women in Business series. You can find out more about her business at vancouverbackpain.com.

What was your key takeaway from reading her responses? What I’ve found is that business leaders often think about why and whether they want to stay in business. It’s not easy to turn a profit in any business; it takes years of hard work and keeping your head down to endure the daily grind. It’s never easy to make a call to close up shop, and it takes a tremendous amount of courage to decide to keep moving forward.

You will find that our features highlight women who started their businesses and have stayed on for decades, while mainstream media often portrays seemingly overnight successes. If you truly love what you do, you will be fine sticking around for years on end, honing your craft and sharing your gifts with the world.

Stay tuned for more Q&A spotlights with other women in business. I can’t wait to share more inspiring stories!
