GROOMER || A Sepia-Toned Pet Salon Designed for the Ultimate Pampering

The sepia-toned Groomer is not your average pet salon.

Developed by a pet lover and Ukraine-based interior design studio Yakusha Design, Groomer is a one-of-a-kind pet grooming salon located in an elite neighbourhood in Ukraine. The design concept was derived from the phrase “Every human needs a friend, and every pet needs human care” which emphasized the human-pet relationship. Having a beloved Belgian Shepard herself, Chief Designer Victoria Yakusha understands the importance of a tranquil and stress-free grooming experience for both the pet and their owners.

The 200 square-metre pet salon includes three zones: a grooming section for pets with stations for bathing, trimming, and styling, a spacious lounge area for pet owners, and an area for personal hygiene. An elevated ceiling opens up the space, and high-quality materials in a palette of sepia shades were used for a cohesive look and feel. Pale wood furniture, quartzite rock flooring, and steel adds intricate surface textures and finishes to complement the earth-toned ceramic décor and soft shapes of the modular sofas.

Dim, ethereal light fixtures shine like moonlight to create soft ambient lighting, evoking a sense of tranquillity for pet owners to unwind with a cup of tea or coffee.

By incorporating rounded elements throughout the interior such as the circular sconces, floor mirror, and rounded edges on tables and sofas, softness is created to bring comfort and warmth to the spacious lounge area. Communal sofas encourage conversations and interactions between resting pet owners, providing a place of socialization as guests wait for their furry friends.

With comfort being the heart of the design concept, the design team also ensured that waiting guests can be kept occupied and entertained - either with a delicious drink of their choice from the lounge bar, or to browse through the wide assortment of pet care products from organic shampoos to fragrances on display.

The grooming section features a more modern set-up without deviating from the sepia-toned design theme. Thin, fluorescent light fixtures provide functional lighting for groomers and technicians, while large mirrors along each side of the walls enhance visibility.

Rounded objects can still be found as accenting decors and art displays. On one section of the wall, a set of six rounded light fixtures captures the eye with its faint, ethereal glow.

The main challenge of this project was to create not just ‘another grooming salon’ in our city, but a space for socializing for pet owners, while they are waiting for their furry friends. We have a Belgian shepherd for 5 years now and he loves his little beauty routine. Therefore, the project was very moving and fun.

Groomer is not just a salon for pampering pets, but a holistic experience for both the pet owners and their furry friends. The consumer-centric design concept fosters the human-pet relationship by encouraging the presence of the pet owners during their pet’s grooming session with a dedicated lounging space designed for comfort and relaxation. Yakusha Design definitely provided an elegance solution through the creation of a destination that feels welcoming for all members of the family.
