The Optimistic || Healthy Dining Options Presented in a Lush, Green Atmosphere In the Heart Of Lisbon

Need a dose of optimism? A visit to the elegant and refined The Optimistic will definitely set you in the mood for a good day ahead.

Situated in the alternative Arroios neighbourhood in Lisbon, Portugal, The Optimistic is an enchanting hideaway designed to evoke your senses. The spacious restaurant is located on the ground floor of the high-end hotel of the same name, The Optimistic Hotel, offering out of town guests visiting the romantic Portuguese capital an oasis in the heart of Lisbon’s most vibrant and multicultural districts.

The intention for architect and interior design studio, Contacto Atlântico, was to create a new and inviting space that blends both classic and contemporary elements into one - a destination with a powerful aesthetic impact that will leave an impression. The créme limestone façade and simple, black and white awnings of the restaurant exterior were intentionally kept minimalistic, providing patrons with an element of surprise when they encounter the vibrant and lively interior within.

Intricate wood patterns in the shape of flowers add to the enchanting atmosphere

Large, pendant mirrors on the ceiling adds sophistication and doubles as a photo-op

Upon arrival, guests are greeted by a bright teal reception area. The minimalistic design quickly transitions into a more maximalist approach as you walk deeper into the space. Inside, botanical-inspired wallpaper covers the majority of the walls to bring colour, freshness, and vivacity. Deep green upholstery coupled with patterned wooden walls, draped vegetation, and pink floral walls come together to create an enchanting forest-like setting evoking a feminine and youthful sophistication. A textured, white stone bar with a contrasting teal facade invites guests to walk up to the friendly staff for a custom hand-shaken cocktail.

The showstopper, however, is the introduction of multiple large round pendant mirrors on the ceiling - a more-is-more and eye-catching detail that not only adds to the dreamy atmosphere but also makes for a unique photo-op for social-media-driven millennials.

To add a touch of traditional Portuguese flair to the overall design, traditional tiles that are often seen throughout the country can be found in the Brunch Room, a bright and airy space by the windows that overlook the restaurant’s outdoor patio space. The bright and brilliant ocean blue of the tiles will submerge guests into an exhilarating atmosphere unique from the rest of the restaurant - the perfect place to enjoy a slow morning with the many sustainable, farm-to-table brunch options available.

The venue also prides itself on its sustainable efforts which cover a wide range of aspects: from the introduction of solar panels to create a self-sustaining space, to utilizing local and sustainable ingredients for its menu.

For those looking for a tranquil, oasis-like dining experience where you can retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city, don’t forget to put The Optimistic on your list.
