SALT & BRICK || Creative Fresh Sheet Menu Restaurant in Downtown Kelowna

Even on a Monday evening, the dining room is bustling with activity.

The jewel-tone floral wall against the rustic red brick gives the restaurant its warm and welcoming interior. A bar stretches the length of the restaurant, and solo guests can easily join in on the conversation with other guests and the bartender.

Unlike other restaurants with a set menu, Salt & Brick goes off of a fresh sheet every day, so you never know what’s going to be on the menu (other than the delicious Brussel Sprouts that are a mainstay item in high demand) but you know it’s going to be good.

On a nice summer day you would want to grab a seat on the patio so you can bask in the sunshine while sipping on a glass of local wine. The restaurant has an extensive list of local wines to support the little guys, so you can discover new wineries from their shortlist. The small, open kitchen at the back is staffed by two powerhouse chefs pumping out tasty dishes as they are ready, and the scent of the wonderful dishes being prepared will already have your mouth watering.

Sashimi Grade YellowTail Ceviche with Peruvian peppers, chillies, lime, and tortillas. We devoured this appetizing dish in an instant.

Spring Risotto with asparagus, rapini and scallions. A surprisingly large portion that had us carrying our bellies after our meal.

It’s recommended to have 1 to 2 plates per person for sharing, and of course, we got ambitious and ordered 4 dishes: The Brussel Sprouts, Sashimi Grade Yellowtail Ceviche, Spring Risotto, and Beretta Farms Beef Rib. After savouring each scrumptious dish we can say that we have no regrets (other than the additional weight we’ve gained on this Kelowna trip).

In addition to the lovely crunchy texture of the Brussel Sprouts, the cool and sweet grapes and beer cheese with maple at the bottom together create a refreshing and appetizing medley of flavours. I especially loved the maple and cheese at the bottom as a dipping sauce to give the Brussel Sprouts its notable flavour — I can see why it stays on the menu.

The other item I just couldn’t stop nibbling on even as I felt my stomach expanding was the Spring Risotto with asparagus, rapini and scallions. Pasta and risotto have always been my weak spot, and the perfectly cooked risotto topped with the bright and earthy notes of scallions made every bite just as enjoyable. The portion was surprisingly large for what we expected as a share plate, but I can’t complain when all it means is we get more deliciousness!

Beretta Farms Beef Rib with pomme puree, Worcestershire and honey garlic — the slightly burnt tips are the most flavourful!

Although the kitchen serves up the items as they are ready, it seemed like the chefs saved the best for last, because we got the Beretta Farms Beef Rib as our final dish. I loved the flavourful slightly burnt tips of the beef rib because it’s where a the juices are concentrated. The soft and juicy meat cuts with a fork, and the portion is sufficient for two. We would say that if you are enjoying dinner for two, it’s best to stick to light plates with vegetables and/or fish and just have one carb-heavy and/or meat dish.

After a satisfying dinner, head across the street to walk along the marina to catch the sun set over the still, calm waters of Okanagan Lake, which makes for a tranquil and peaceful end to your evening.

Tastes so good it warrants a top down view to appreciate the plating.
