LUMI ROOFTOP BAR || The Ideal Spot to Catch Some Sun and Sip on a Bairro Twist in Lisbon

Walking through the streets of the Bairro Alto or Alfama neighbourhood on a hot summer day, I felt overwhelmed by the sheer amount of tourists piling onto the narrow cobblestone sidewalks, getting out of Tuk Tuks, and sticking their heads out of the windows on the iconic Lisbon trams.

I went on an adventure to seek a quiet refuge where I could enjoy the sun, the views, and a tasty cocktail. I came across Lumi Rooftop Bar, located on the fifth floor inside The Lumiares Hotel.

Step past the elegant archway into the dining room, and instantly, you are sheltered from the frenetic energy of the bustling activity of the city below.

Elegant entrance decoration to the restaurant and bar

The restaurant houses a modern semi-circular bar, marble and bronze accents, and a sloped roof with generous skylights and windows to draw natural light. The interior is a soothing blend of cream yellow and grey against clean white walls with pops of greenery; tables are positioned to allow guests to enjoy the views beyond the door leading out to the patio.

What's good on the menu? I would recommend the refreshing Tuna Ceviche, as after I tried several spots around the city, the fish seems to be the highlight. In contrast, I would suggest shying away from meat dishes if you're used to AAA Angus Steak North American steaks. Octopus is another seafood delicacy that they do well in Portugal, with their Octopus rice, grilled octopus and other renditions. The portions are usually generous, and while I usually don't eat octopus, I must admit that the Octopus rice with small chunks of octopus in it was quite good. The Roasted Octopus here was also quite good and serves up a hearty portion.

The waitress kindly prepared a single table on the patio for me to enjoy my cocktail after I enjoyed a light lunch in the dining room with my family, and I gladly took up a spot facing the soothing water views. I recommend sitting on the side facing the water as it provides shade from the beating sun. While I also love basking in the sun and getting a bronzed tan, the sunshine in Lisbon will burn you, so I advise against sitting in the sun for a prolonged period.

Whether you're in the mood for a meal or a drink on the patio, Lumi Rooftop Bar is a recommended escape from the lively city streets when it becomes a bit much on vacation. I hope you enjoy it!
