If you are like us visiting Japan at least once every few years, you are likely looking for hidden gems that would provide a unique cultural stay while you are there. While staying in posh hotels and traditional ryokans around Japan presents some comfortable options, there are many interesting and differentiated accommodations in this bustling city you should explore. MOSHI MOSHI ROOMS, located in Harajuku, Japan, offers an experience different from traditional hotel stays with its integration of conceptual art into each of its rooms. I’ve always loved Japanese manga ever since I was a child, and one look at these rooms whisked me away into one of the culture’s fantastical stories brimming with Japan’s ‘kawaii’ cuteness — something you can only find in Japan.

The home-sharing facility has just opened the latest addition to its building, the appropriately named “HARAJUKU” room. This playfully surreal room is saturated with colourful “kawaii” cuteness.

Where potted plants aren’t green, but purple.

Whimsical details like multi-coloured picture frames, unexpected colours on different animals makes you feel as if you are in a fairytale.

It’s as if you stepped into a life-size Barbie set when you stay in the Harajuku room.

There’s a different artistic concept for each floor of the MOSHI MOSHI ROOMS building, with the second floor offering a glimpse into the world of sumo via the “Dosukoi” room, the third floor housing the new Harajuku room, the fourth floor showcasing the traditional art of Origami where vibrant paper umbrellas cover the ceiling, and finally, the fifth floor where you sleep under a beautiful lit-up Sakura tree.

The new Harajuku Room has everything in shades of cute pastel colours, from the baby blue walls to the pastel pink kitchen cabinets and range hood. Creatures in vibrant colours laze around the Barbie-like bed with a hot pink bed frame, while asymmetrical countertops and playful arches complete the experience. It reminds us of the Barbie Doll play sets we used to have when we were children, only now it is a life-size rendition of it; this is something we would expect only in Japan as it thoroughly illustrates the culture’s ownership of the ‘kawaii’ concept.

From the cabinets to the range hood and even the refrigerator, everything is a cute shade of pastel pink.

The rooms come equipped with the standard amenities you would find in a short-term rental, including toiletries, fridge, washing machine, kettle, hairdryer, cutlery and tableware, sippers, towels, bathrobes and extra beds if needed. Of course, you will be able to stay connected with Wi-Fi and Google Home. Another perk is air conditioning, which is especially useful if you decide to book a trip for the summertime since Tokyo could get to as high as 38 to 42 degrees!

We think a stay at MOSHI MOSHI ROOMS would offer a truly unique experience during your stay in Japan. Ready to find out more and to book your stay? Visit the website to learn more.
