TRAVEL SERIES || Immersed in the Rugged Beauty of the Northern Territory, Australia

As the world slowly re-opens post-pandemic, the desire to discover new lands and experiences is at an all-time high. Our travel series seeks to inspire you with unique travel options and itineraries worldwide, spanning the Americas, Europe, Asia Pacific, and beyond. Join us as we explore Northern Territory, Australia with the eco-friendly cabins by Hideaway Litchfield.

Despite many of the similarities, the Great White North and Great South Land each have distinctive characteristics in many aspects.

As an ex-pat in Canada who lived in Australia for several years, I can assure you that both their natural landscape and native wildlife are equally fascinating. Yet, Australia is worth your time travelling across the Pacific Ocean, especially if you are a thrillseeker like me who wants to experience something more than just petting kangaroos, seeing the Sydney Opera House’s light display or sunbathing at the touristy beach in the Sunshine State.

Australia’s outback, the Northern Territory, consists of diverse landscapes ranging from dry rugged terrain and tropical rainforests to lush wetlands which offer you the most picturesque views like nowhere else. It is not just the perfect place for an action-packed adventure with nocturnal wildlife but is also rich in aboriginal culture and ancient art.

Just because you get close to nature doesn’t mean you have to do it in a tough way. Whether you are a seasoned traveler or first-time adventurer, Hideaway Litchfield nestled in the native bushland of Litchfield National Park will only make the trip more memorable.

“Since setting up our own home out in this beautiful part of the world, we’ve had a dream to create spaces for folks to come, stay, and be refreshed,” the artistic founders of Hideaway Rog and Viv explain. In October 2021, the family-owned hotels added the third boutique cabin that redefines luxury hospitality by taking a sustainable approach by making the cabin from shipping containers that are fueled by solar power and backup generators.

To complement the surroundings, the owners kept the design of the two-story cabin minimal with woody elements for a rustic style so the natural scenery remains the main focus. Guests can witness the magnificent show of nature in ultimate comfort through the floor-to-ceiling windows as the rusty red landscape is transformed into a lush green by rain showers.

The space is well equipped with all standard amenities you need such as cutlery and tableware, toiletries, air-conditioning, a BBQ and last but not least, Wi-Fi so that you can share your wilderness adventure on the internet anytime!

As guests wake up to the surrounding nature stretching off to the horizon where their closest neighbours are kangaroos, they will be provided with brekkie supplies including eggs, bacon and milk; an alternate option is to fuel up for the day ahead with authentic Aussie cuisine at local cafes that are just a short distance away.

Time to explore Litchfield National Park, the home to several stunning waterfalls that cascade into crystal clear pools! When you visit during the warm summer days(which I highly recommend), swimming in the lush waterhole is a must-do activity. After you cool down, enjoy the greatest visual feast offered by the historic ruins and gigantic termite mounds, whereas you will get close to the native species inhabited in the monsoon forest.
