We simply can’t think of a more beautiful place for a weekend getaway.

The Commodore Perry Estate in Austin, Texas, is a modern interpretation of a residential estate from yesteryear, where guests are invited to sit back, celebrate and inspire thoughtful conversation. It gives you the feeling of visiting a friend’s estate guesthouse where you can spend hours enjoying afternoon tea, or hop on one of the vintage bikes available from the property to explore Austin at your own pace. The resort was recently opened in the summer of 2020, offering a new and novel experience for those looking for a new travel destination to explore.

Originally built at the height of the Jazz Age in 1928 as the country home of businessman Edgar Perry and his wife, Lutie, the 10,800-square-foot Italian Renaissance Revival mansion, the estate is surrounded by terraces, parterres, and fountains, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, set a new precedent in its time for gracious entertaining. The estate went through several chapters since then, having transformed into several high schools and a chapel, before evolving into a resort hotel.

The intimate 10-acre estate offers 42 rooms and 12 suites, and amenities including an organic urban farm, a signature garden restaurant, a member’s club, English gardens, a chapel for private events and activities, 3,000-square-feet of outdoor event space, and an oversized outdoor swimming pool.

Guest accommodations at Commodore Perry Estate are in both the Estate’s original Mansion and the adjacent Inn, for a total of 42 king hotel rooms and 12 suites. Guests are greeted by the Estate Host upon arrival, the personal concierge who is available throughout the stay to personalize guests’ experiences.

The 10,800 SF mansion is the centerpiece of the resort, where the five bedrooms of the original Perry’s residence have been transformed into stately and modern accommodations named after its original inhabitants.

The downstairs rooms in the mansion function as they historically did: The Living Room is furnished with a craft cocktail bar and deep Chesterfield sofas for gathering fireside with a cocktail, and the oval book-lined Library is a flexible space set up for reading or quiet conversation in overstuffed chairs.

Asides from the contemporary and welcoming social spaces, guests can also taste some of the most highly-rated cuisines in Texas at Commodore Perry Estate.

The resort features its own destination restaurant, where the kitchen is helmed by the renowned duo Executive Chef Bradley Nicholson and Executive Pastry Chef Susana Querejazu, prominent local chefs recognized for their time at Barley Swine, a top eatery in Austin. Guests can experience Texas Heritage Cuisine in a variety of settings, whether it be in the handsome dining room with its hand-painted paneling, vaulted Solarium, sun-filled Loggia or spacious Terrace overlooking a trickling fountain and lush grounds.

Guest rooms and suites feature custom furnishings, heirloom vintage pieces sourced from the nationally renowned Round Top Antiques Fair, and Juliette balconies overlooking lush, fragrant gardens and a courtyard. The building, designed by celebrated firm Moule & Polyzoides, features an elegant colonnade perfectly suited to the history of the property. Inside, the guest rooms and amenities envisioned from conception by Ken Fulk offer an elevated hotel experience with an eclectic mix of mid-century Italian and 1920s Spanish pieces, a collection of vintage rugs, and framed artworks.
