MEXICO || Boutique Hotel Rooftop Bar Bekeb in San Miguel de Allende Earns a Spot on the 50 Best Discovery List

Remember the last time you enjoyed a delicious cocktail on a rooftop bar?

The sun’s warmth caresses your face, not a cloud in the sky. What could be better than savouring a cocktail in such an idyllic setting? For us, cocktails are meticulously crafted and tell a story with their ingredients.

BEKEB, a bar located on the terrace of the Casa Hoyos boutique hotel, delights with its artisan cocktails— carefully conceived by renowned mixologist Fabiola Padilla—ideal for aperitif enthusiasts. Her concept crystallizes a unique luxury experience in San Miguel de Allende, in a historic building of this UNESCO World Heritage site.

BEKEB’s memorable artisan mixology, which evokes the aromas and flavours of Mexico, has earned a place on the 50 Best Discovery list thanks to its unprecedented experience.

Created in 2019, 50 Best Discovery is a sister project to the prestigious 50 Best that seeks to recognize the best restaurants and bars in the world for their experiences and proposals, which are rated by an international network of 50 experts in the gastronomy industry.

The 50 Best Discovery is part of other distinctions that BEKEB has received, including the “Best International Hotel Bar” nomination in the Latin America category at the 2022 Spirited Awards of The Tales of the Cocktail Foundation.

Agave distillates, plants, flowers and roots are chords that merge in the cocktails made by Fabiola Padilla, a renowned mixologist who leads BEKEB, based on an imprint that seeks to reconnect with the origins and essentials of Mexico.

In BEKEB, Padilla engages in a dialogue around contemporary cocktails with her particular elixirs, which have also led her to collaborate with the COSME restaurant, by Enrique Olvera, and the Diego bar, in the Public Hotel on the Lower East Side, both in New York.

Among the flagship creations of the bar that takes its name from the Tzotzil term —Bek—, whose meaning is seed, is its homonymous cocktail based on elderflower liqueur, lemon verbena, pineapple, Sotol and Mezcal, served in a glass of black clay from Oaxaca.

BEKEB’s proposal takes the seasons of the year and seasonal ingredients as its starting point, emphasizing its link with the benefits of the land while complementing itself with other essential blends such as “Sorrel” with aged tequila, white vermouth, tangerine liqueur, clove bitters and tangerine zest; the “Milk Punch Vol. 1”, using a clarification technique with coconut milk and the “Lavender Sour”, composed of Mexican gin, aromatized wine, lavender flower —cultivated in the region—, violet liqueur and aquafaba. This last one is the first cocktail in Mexico with augmented reality thanks to a unique filter activated on the cell phone through a QR code, allowing you to appreciate virtual flowers and butterflies around its bird-shaped glass.

BEKEB invites you to rediscover the pleasure of every day, the simple, and the nature that nourishes and enchants the spirit. If you’re stopping by San Miguel de Allende on your next visit to Mexico, make time to savour a few creative concoctions at this boutique hotel rooftop bar.
