EDEN CAFE || Enjoy Your Weekend Caffeine Break Here with Lush Greenery and Tasty Oat Milk Lattes

I’ve recently discovered the magic of oat milk. Yes, I’m about 2 years late I know.

Consider me a part of the laggard crowd when it comes to trying diet trends. I’ve made it part of my weekly ritual to explore new cafes in the city, specifically, one new cafe per week on Saturday morning, when I have time alone to go at my own pace.

This past week I came across Eden Cafe, located on East Hastings Street. The cafe is decorated with a colourful wall mural on one side, and lush plants now placed on benches to take the places where customers used to sit. While indoor dining is currently not allowed, Eden Cafe does have two tables outside where you can sit and enjoy your coffee while soaking up some vitamin D.

Outdoor seating lets you enjoy your coffee in the sunshine

Eden Cafe is a social enterprise, providing a place in the Downtown Eastside (DTES) community for people from all walks of life to connect. You can find out more about their DTES Program here.

I visited in the late afternoon after I had a hearty lunch, so I only had an appetite for a latte (and a cookie of course!) I chose the matcha latte as I saw that they made it with unsweetened matcha. I also decided to venture out of my comfort zone with. my usual almond milk alternative and try oat milk. What a wondrous combination! The unsweetened matcha has a natural slightly bitter taste to it, paired with the sweet oat milk, the resulting latte was a tasty indulgence.

Prior to visiting the cafe (meaning 15 minutes before as I was sitting in my parked car) I had checked out the cafe’s social profile and discovered their Earl Grey Lavender cookie; this was a deciding factor in my choosing to visit because they had me at earl grey. The cookie was aromatic, crispy at the edges, and slightly soft and chewy in the middle — the perfect cookie.

All the cookies look so tempting

I have yet to try their other offerings such as muffins, croissants, sandwiches and wraps, but the next time I am in the area I would definitely swing by for another latte and cookie. I have my eyes on the salted caramel chocolate cookie next.
