“I am a Woman: Sovereign by Nature” || A Celebration of Female Strength for International Women’s Day

ME London and ME by Melia are delighted to present visual artist and photographer Marta Lamovsek and her extraordinary collection: ‘I am a Woman: Sovereign by Nature’, as part of ME by Melia’s WOMAN IS ART series.

Marta invites guests to her universe of vibrant photographic portraits of women during a monthly residency at ME London’s Marconi Lounge between 8th March and 17th April, celebrating the month of International Women’s Day. Marta has previously worked with the likes of Dame Vivienne Westwood, and is thrilled to be showcasing her work at ME London, with private portraiture sessions also available throughout her residency - an exceptionally unique and interactive experience.

Dubai-based photographer and visual artist, Marta Lamovsek, showcases her exclusive new collection at ME London’s Marconi Lounge from 8th March till 17th April.

The new collection is made up of a series of striking portraits that depict the regal power of women and are distinctly shot in front of colourful textile backgrounds. Marta’s unique style of character-driven portraiture offers a spectacular riot of exuberance and maximalism, achieved through the use of bold fabrics, loud jewellery and quirky trinkets sourced in Dubai’s old-world bazaars. Marta’s extensive travels across the globe are uniquely displayed through her portraits, where she magically captures a diversity of cultures including those from the Emirates to London locals.

The collection forms part of ME by Melia’s wider WOMAN IS ART series, which explores the exciting world of femininity through art. The sentiment of ‘WOMAN IS ART’ lies at the very heart of the ME by Melia brand and is demonstrated through annual initiatives, such as Marta’s show, celebrating the synergies between art, creativity and female empowerment. The series seeks to celebrate female artists who actively highlight the important cultural contribution women bring to society, of which Marta succeeds.

I believe that every single female out there - regardless the cultural background they come from - needs a remembrance of their supreme power that Mother Nature has crowned them with: Us, women, we have been gifted with intuition and timeless wisdom inside of us, and by aligning with those two superpowers, we can change the world.
— Marta Lamovsek

Slovenian-born and Dubai-based photographer Marta Lamovsek has been capturing humanity with her camera for the past 20 years, having originally developed her technique at The Central Saint Martins - University of Arts London. Her art has since featured in more than 80 titles including British Vogue, i-D Magazine and Harper’s Bazaar. One of Marta’s most notable collaborations was with Dame Vivienne Westwood, where she was commissioned for Westwood’s lookbook campaign and later documented several iconic fashion shows.

During her time as a photographer, Marta has focussed on expanding the cultural horizon, capturing the souls of everyone from truck drivers to gardeners, architects to soprano singers, and maids to members of royal families. Marta seeks to masterfully weave the beauty of soul and mastery of craft into an entirely new space for urban contemporary art, establishing each individual as an icon. Marta Lamovsek’s mission is to empower humanity with the spirit of her portraits.

Throughout the exhibition, the portraits will be available for sale. For those wishing for a truly unique experience, Marta will be available for bespoke private portraits, available exclusively at her London installation studio at ME London. Each sitting is a minimum of one hour and involves entirely unique custom styling, portraiture session, professional retouching and printing, along with a signing of the final art portrait.

Marta Lamovsek’s glorious collection, “I am a Woman: Sovereign by Nature”, will be available to view at ME London’s Marconi Lounge from International Women’s Day on the 8th March until 17th April.
