WICKED CAFE || Wicked Delicious Blueberry, Raspberry, Apple Cinnamon Buns and More

Wicked Cafe may be known for its buns, but there are many more reasons to visit this characteristic cafe located in the South Granville neighborhood.

For one, the delicious almond milk matcha latte I had, which was finished with the latte art of a teddy bear. Need I say more?

What attracted me to visit initially was the new white canopy that covers the outdoor patio seating. Crisp and white, hanging signage, and hanging teacups. Wooden patio seats with chairs that encourage you to ‘sink in’ make this spot a great pastime on the weekend or even a weekday morning.

Inside, the various buns are on display at the counter, and so are warm, house-made cookies. One thing I didn’t know was that they also offer cream puffs in various flavors. Since it has been a while since I had been back (our office used to be in the area), there are a lot of new menu items I have yet to try. One of which is the Wicked Apple Cinnamon Bun. The bun is slightly crispy when warmed, and the cream cheese on top melts into a pool of cream cheese lava, spilling onto the plate, making it perfect as a dipping sauce.

The perfect dessert table

I also had a chance to try the special Easter cream puff topped with tri-colored chocolate mini Easter eggs. The cream puffs here are just the right size, unlike the ones you see elsewhere that are so big that just a single one would constitute a meal. The outer shell is light and crispy, and the cream inside has a whipped and fluffy texture.

The decor is both rustic and whimsical, with red brick walls and wooden countertop and bar seating along the walls, and a communal round table in the centre.

It may be tough to choose between all the different bun flavors available

Vivid and vibrant portraits adorn the walls, and stuffed toys hang from lighting fixtures. Here, you’ll find a mix of bloggers taking photos, an interesting mix of students and business people of all ages working away on their laptops (myself included), and neighborhood locals swinging by to grab their coffee.

A unique community gathers at this spot, and you’ll enjoy the laid-back, friendly atmosphere here. I know I did when I used to work in the area, the cafe is a lot busier now than before with the new range of goods and a change to the decor, but the friendly culture of the staff hasn’t changed and it’s nice to be back.
