What does a functional ceramic tile system do?
WOW Design translates four everyday actions into ceramic geometry: support, contain, hang and illuminate. Five pieces carry them out. Shelf extends the wall plane into a supporting surface, and Edge Shelf adds a small lip that keeps objects in place. Hook turns the relief into a hanging point with no visible hardware. Pot introduces a ceramic volume for plants, utensils or everyday objects, and Light builds illumination into the piece, projecting its geometry onto the wall.
A cookbook rests on a shelf above utensils hanging from ceramic hooks, and a wall of pots holds rosemary, thyme and basil. In a bathroom setting, soap, bottles and a hairbrush find places on shelves and in a pot, with a washcloth on a hook below. Each setting reads as a different room, yet the underlying system is the same.
How does the FUNCtile grid work?
Every piece fits the same 12.5 × 12.5 cm module, which gives the system a common structure while leaving the composition open. Elements can appear, disappear, or combine freely, so one construction logic produces different walls depending on the space and how it is used. For designers specifying a kitchen or bathroom wall, that flexibility moves storage, hanging and lighting decisions into the tile layout itself. The renderings show how far one module can travel: the wall pictured below combines a pot, a shelf and a light, while a dark wall sets pale pieces against deep tile for a graphic effect. What colours does FUNCtile come in?
The system comes in eight shades linked to the Fayenza collection: Deep White, Greige, Fern, Mineral Grey, Coral, Peacock Blue, Royal Green, and Ebony. Eight shades give specifiers room to match a wall’s mood, from the quiet Deep White and Greige to the saturated Coral and Peacock Blue.
