CLOUDCREST WATERSIDE RESIDENCE || Between Stillness and Flow in a Modern Ningbo Home

Every curve in this home seems to move like a current.
In Ningbo, where rivers meet the sea and old trades once carried dreams across the coast, Cloudcrest Waterside Residence captures the city’s timeless affinity with water. Designed by BM.Design and Wuxiang Interior Design, the 740-square-metre home translates the spirit of movement into a living environment where tranquillity and vitality coexist.
The central gathering space unfolds in sweeping curves, where natural light and panoramic views bring a quiet sense of movement to family life.
The central gathering space unfolds in sweeping curves, with a elongated sofa that flows with the walls.
For chief designer Bao Mingda, the starting point was empathy. “Design must first empathize with residents to create a space that aligns with their lifestyle,” he shares. His clients, a young family with two children, wanted a home that could evolve with them, balancing social spaces with moments of quiet reflection. The concept of “the form of water” became the design’s guiding principle, shaping an interior that feels alive yet calm.
Wave-like ceilings ripple through the main living areas, sculpted to conceal beams and utilities without compromising height. Curved walls flow gently into one another, their rhythm reminiscent of a stone skipping across a pond. Even the furniture echoes these fluid gestures, reinforcing the connection between architecture, emotion, and the city’s coastal identity.
Marble inlays evoke waves washing ashore, leading to a striking wall of Amazon Green stone that anchors the home’s water-inspired theme.
At the entry foyer, a recessed threshold embodies the family’s modest spirit. Beneath one’s feet, marble inlays resemble ocean waves washing over golden sand. The eye is then drawn toward a luminous wall of Amazon Green marble, its emerald tones swirling like sea and sky in motion. The piece introduces a dialogue between nature and craftsmanship, revealing beauty through movement.
The living and dining area serves as the heart of the home, opening to a landscaped balcony that overlooks Ningbo’s Eastern New City skyline. Light floods in through full-height windows, reflecting off the polished floors and flowing seamlessly toward the dining island and tea table. The effect is immersive: boundaries dissolve, and the line between indoor life and the outside world fades. Every corner becomes a vignette of connection: morning coffee by the balcony, family dinners beneath sculpted ceilings, piano music drifting softly through the hall from the lounge.
The lounge sofa is awash in cream and chocolate shades, creating a relaxing ambiance to settle in for a restful moment.
In the master suite, light and softness prevail. The furnishings trace gentle arcs, and a red accent sofa adds a touch of vitality within the neutral palette. The windows frame views that shift throughout the day, from dawn’s first glow over the treetops to the city’s reflection shimmering across the water at night. Here, tranquillity finds form through texture and light rather than ornament.
Curved lines and soft textures foster tranquility, while a red accent sofa introduces warmth and individuality.
Smoked glass mirrors, recessed lighting, and a dressing table facing the city view establish a comforting atmosphere to get ready for the day or a special occasion.
Throughout the residence, subtle details carry symbolic meaning: columns transformed into sculptural “trees,” acrylic screens that refract colour by day and glow by night, and art displays that punctuate the corridor’s rhythm. Together, they compose an interior symphony that flows without interruption, much like Ningbo itself: a city that embraces the ever-changing nature of water.
Cloudcrest Waterside Residence is a meditation on balance. Between stillness and motion, between family life and personal solitude, it captures the quiet poetry of living in harmony with one’s surroundings.
