NAMMOS ESTIATORIO || Traditional Greek Menu Serves Up Bright Mediterranean Flavours

One glance at the menu and we knew we were in danger of over-ordering — because we wanted to try everything on the menu!

From zucchini fritters to meatballs and lemon potatoes (which are a must-try!) the three of us wanted to try the various flavours and ingredients on the menu. We managed to grab a patio seat to enjoy the early evening summer breeze and started our meal with a refreshing red wine Sangria.

The best way to enjoy the menu at Nammos Estiatorio is to order several share plates and even entrees to share so everyone gets a taste of everything.

Saganaki - fried kefalograviera cheese

Melitzana Imam - oven baked eggplant, onions, tomato, parsley

For our starters, we opted for the Tzatziki spread and Saganaki (fried cheese). The Tzatziki spread was refreshing and creamy as expected, and the Saganaki was surprisingly light for a fried cheese with not much excess oil on it.

We also shared the oven-baked eggplant, which was topped with a rich blend of onions, tomatoes and parsley. The eggplant absorbs the essence of the other ingredients and packs a blend of sweet and tangy flavours into every bite. We would even recommend adding a dollop of tzatziki to balance the flavours with the creamy texture and citrusy taste.

Now, if you thought the baked meat dishes and larger entrees would be the most highly-rated items, then you need to know that the lemon roasted potatoes are the customer favourite, and we saw every table had a platter of these. The citrusy taste cuts through the usual heavier, starchy taste of potatoes, meaning we each had a generous serving without feeling full.

A meal isn’t complete unless it has tzatziki

I always thought lamb chops or lamb dishes at a Greek restaurant are must-haves, and so we ordered Paidakia, lamb chops served on a bed of bulgur with Tzatziki. We had the lamb chops medium rare, which was juicy and perfectly cooked to our taste. Dipped in the creamy tzatziki, the citrus notes in the spread helps to balance out the meat oils so it doesn’t feel as heavy.

My companions were surprised when I insisted on having the spaghetti with meatballs, and the addition of this entree officially took us into the territory of over-ordering (and over-eating). We found the meatballs to be a bit dry, but I still enjoyed the spaghetti, which was lightly tossed in tomato sauce and topped with aromatic herbs.

Makaronia Keftedes - spaghetti & meatballs, mitzithra cheese

Evidently, we had ordered too much food for three people, so when the time came for us to decide on dessert, we had to pass this time.

Our insider tip would be to try and grab a seat outside on the patio. Of course, for the sunshine and the summer breeze, but also because we prefer a quieter outdoor space where we don’t need to chat over the music playing indoors. We see ourselves revisiting the Nammos Estiatorio patio at least once more before the end of the season for their lemon potatoes, baked eggplant and lamb chops!
