SANTORINI || The Daily Views of Santorini

I wanted to present the real Santorini through this series of photos.

Versus the scenes of what one would see in the bustling tourist areas, we opted for a walk through some of Santorini's quieter neighborhoods, and caught the sunset from a spot other than Oia, where the setting sun sets the sky on fire with its blazing red rings, and just as quickly transforms the skies into a mix of gentle pink and blue hues.

I wanted to present a face of Santorini different from that presented on prevalent social channels. We usually see the beautiful sunset, the pristine white homes dotting the skyline, but I wanted to present the ‘true’ picture behind the perfected travel photos. These photos are a collection of the daily views of Santorini.

Quiet off season for beach goers in mid October.

Savvy travellers escaping the scorching heat by retreating to the inner shopping streets.

Man on a scooter - the most common way to get around in the narrow, cobblestone streets of Santorini. Be prepared for loud engines.

Before you get to the view, you must climb the steps. That they usually don’t tell you.

Many, many people will be pausing to take photos of the beautiful views.

Buildings and homes are painted once per year to refresh the white paint on the exterior - how do you think it stays so white otherwise?

The perfect spot to gaze out to the Aegean Sea.

Do you see the setting sun or the sunbathers settling in to catch the sunset?

Quieter streets of the village of Megalochori, where retail vendors utilize the streets as a retail display.

They say you should visit Megalochori because it’s charming, it’s likely because of the beautiful blossoms that spill out onto the pathways.

The sunset in Oia, which many make the trek for, but if you look closely, is dotted with hundreds of bobbing tourist heads in the foreground.

The sunset viewed from the Akrotiri Lighthouse, where not one single tourist head is to be found.
