It was a warm sunny morning as we wandered down Abbot Kinney Blvd in Venice Beach, Los Angeles. We sipped our cold-pressed juices from Lemonade, and was on a search for a bustling brunch place - a sign that the food is appreciated by the local community.
Not long into our stroll down the road we came across a busy restaurant, The Tasting Kitchen, where guests chatted away over delicious brunch plates. Greenery decorated the entryway and the friendly hostess ensured we were seated right away. This venue makes for great people watching, as guests are chic and well dressed.
We each ordered a pot of tea and ordered the Oxtail Hash with a baked egg and gremolata and the sticky bun to share to ensure we covered both the savoury and the sweet. As we waited, several orders passed by our table and the delicious aromas made our mouths water in anticipation.
The Oxtail Hash was soft and tender, and the perfectly baked egg provided yolk as a dipping sauce. Within minutes the entire dish was cleared and our stomachs were full.
Our sticky bun arrived soon after, and the server had recommended that we add bacon to it, which was genius; the mix of sweet and savoury with the candied bacon and caramel sauce took this dish over the top. While we were already quite full after the Oxtail Hash, we couldn't resist devouring the Sticky Bun and Bacon as well. Paired with the hot Chai Tea, it was the perfect brunch snack to complete our meal.
After reviewing their instagram photos, we regret not staying for a few more days to experience other items from their menu! We would have loved to try their dinner menu as well but we will have to save that for our next trip to Los Angeles. If you do happen to come across The Tasting Kitchen during your travels, make sure to have the sticky bun, it's nothing short of amazing!
