SUNSET TOWER APARTMENT || Living with Light in a Contemporary Beachside Retreat in Southern Brazil

The sea may set the rhythm outside, but inside this apartment, it is light, material, and technology that compose the melody of daily life.
In Balneário Piçarras, a seaside town in southern Brazil, Paulo Spessatto Arquitetura designed the Sunset Tower Apartment as a luminous retreat where cutting-edge technology coexists with coastal calm. Measuring 130 square meters, the residence was envisioned for a family of four who desired a space that felt both contemporary and serene; a home where light, materiality, and state-of-the-art automation would elevate daily life.
The apartment was purchased off-plan, giving the architect the opportunity to reconfigure electrical, ceiling, plumbing, and air conditioning points to suit the family’s lifestyle. Every developer-standard finish was replaced with custom-selected materials, from noble wood veneers and carved marble to matte gold metalwork and tailored lighting solutions. The result is a residence that embodies modern sophistication while embracing the relaxed rhythm of its beachside setting.
At its core, the project centers on connection. The open-plan kitchen, barbecue area, and dining space form a light-filled and welcoming social area, where an automated grill, bespoke glassware cabinet, and a generous eight-seat dining table invite family gatherings and celebrations. Seamless transitions between these spaces ensure that hosting is as effortless as it is elegant.
Throughout the interiors, natural materials take on a starring role. Wood cabinetry softens the expanses of marble, while porcelain tile floors with a large 120 x 120 cm format create continuity underfoot, enhancing the sense of spaciousness. In the powder room, a carved natural stone sink is paired with gold-plated pendants adorned with selenite crystals, handcrafted by artisans in southern Brazil, which brings an artisanal glow to the refined palette.
The private spaces continue this dialogue between warmth and elegance. The master suite is layered with textured wallpaper, mirrored panels, and gold accents that reflect the residents’ identity in a restful yet refined composition. For the children, the second suite balances playfulness with versatility, featuring an auxiliary bed for sleepovers, a study desk, and room for games and relaxation. A guest suite completes the trio, discreetly sophisticated with its stone panelling and muted tones.
Bathrooms carry their own identities: golden-veined porcelain and metallic fixtures in the master bath, playful vertical tiles in the children’s, and neutral tones in the guest bath. Each detail is tied together by a comprehensive lighting scheme, fully automated and dimmable, allowing for atmospheric shifts that move from lively to tranquil with ease.
In the Sunset Tower Apartment, technology supports but never overshadows. It is the warmth of wood, the softness of fabric, the glow of light on stone, and the gentle dialogue between indoors and outdoors that define the experience. A dream realized for its residents, this beachside home is proof that contemporary elegance and seaside serenity can coexist in harmony.
